Red Panda (Ailurus fulgens)

Overview


The red panda, is a small native arboreal mammal to the eastern Himalayas and south western China. The red panda is related to raccoons, skunks and weasels. It is the only existent specy of the genus Ailurus and the family of  Ailuridae. Slightly larger than a cat, it has reddish-brown fur, a long, shaggy tail, and a waddling gait due to its shorter front legs.

Habitat
Generally  the red panda sleeps on any tree.

Food
It feeds mainly on bamboo, but is omnivorous and may also eat eggs, birds, insects, and small mammals.

Behaviour
The red panda is a solitary animal, mainly active from dusk to dawn, and is largely sedentary during the day.
